Humans are capable of some of the most sublime acts of kindness … courage … compassion … creativity …
And we are a species capable of acts of such appalling crudity that it leaves me broken hearted.
Folks … we have the power to make choices about the kind of person we want to be … hour by hour … day by day …
No One ‘Makes You… ‘ do or be anything.
That’s such a cop out.
Awful things happen to good people … and people literally get away with murder.
And … in all the shit and sunshine that is our lives … we have the power to choose the kind of person we want to be.
And … what’s Liz on about? … you ask.
I was going about the mundane but productive chore of cleaning my kitchen this evening when I heard Mags and John Joe (refer to previous post for photos … they are famous) playing in the lane.
Happy for any distracting task (I did finish cleaning) I wandered out … only to be met by a new member of Mags dog crew … who was it?
Someone had rung Mags this evening to let her know that there was a puppy that seemed to be abandoned. The caller had been leaving it food for 2 days.
He didn’t want Mags to do anything … yeh right … any of us know that Mags would climb over us if there was an animal in need.
So she went down and brought the puppy back.
Derek and Lynda came out the back so the cottage clan was all there … and John Joe … and the abandoned black and white cat we have all taken in … and new abandoned (maybe just lost) puppy.
She is gorgeous (the puppy … although Mags is a looker) and seems a little scared of people … but still with some gumption.
I’ve offered to keep her at my cottage until we find her family.
Right now she’s curled upon my couch … fast asleep.
Just sent Adrian these photos of her to print out on sheets that I will take to the library, Moo Bar, Supa Value ….
For anyone in Ballinamore … if you recognize the puppy please leave a comment and your phone number and I’ll get back to you.
If her family doesn’t turn up then I’ll adopt her.
It’s not always the big splashy world saving ideas and actions that define us … it’s the day to day … the tiny acts of kindness and compassion … a sense of enjoyment in what seems to be ordinary and mundane … all the fundamental choices we make about how we want to be in the world … that’s what matters to me … that’s how I will define if I have lived a good life.

A million thanks to all of you for taking in this puppy. She is adorable – and another little Orca – matches the cat. They were made for each other.
I have 3 animals who had been rendered homeless and we will get another dog (actually I know one will find us) after we move. Our DaisyMae needs a good bud. For the life of me I cannot imagine abandoning an animal. I seethe and cry at the very idea and yet I know it goes on all of the time everywhere.
Thank you Liz and all again so very much for taking in this pup. BTW – just look at the length of her legs – she’s going to be a tall gal

Yeh – she’s a sweety.
It’s 3 am in the morning an I’ve just cleaned up a few presents she left me …no problemo.
Someone has scared her because she shies away a lot and kind of crawls up to me when I call her.
I just keep my voice happy and say ‘good girl’ a lot.
She’s playing with a dog biscuit at the moment – throwing it in the air for a while then eating it.
Lucky I’m a night person and love having afternoon siestas.
She will be a tall girl … her legs and paws are huge.
Off to the library this morning to get some puppy training books.
She took a fancy to the throw I have on the couch and tries to chew it when I’m not looking. She’s a bright girl because stops chewing a soon a she sees me.
Off to bed now.

OK, I’m officially melting!
Could a puppy possibly be any cuter?

Hi Brother
Puppy is very cute but doesn’t have great expectations of humans.
Someone has scared her a lot.
She’s happily chewing on dog biscuits and is starting to feel confident enough to explore the cottage.
As soon as I take her outside though she gets scared … I think she remembers being either lost or abandoned.
I can see I’ll be buying some dog toys today … she’s bright and easily bored. Just like your sister.
And she needs a cute collar and leash and new bed.
And … a bath… that will be fun.
She slept on my bed last night and was sooo quiet.
Today we put up posters and see if she was lost.
Thinking of calling her Sweety – other names will be explored.
xxxx Liz
