Happy Saturday everyone.
What a week.
Dublin was great and all my meetings went well:
- Meeting with Catherine and Wale in the Refugee Information Service to put the finishing touches to a training and information package I have written on integration, family reunification and good service practice for refugees and migrants.
- Good interview for the Social Entrepreneur Ireland Award- will know if I won an award in a few weeks.
- Lunch with the CEO of Depaul Trust Ireland. I invited them to be my non profit guinea pig/partner for SKIL2. They accepted and will be contributing the support and use of their workforce as well as 10,000 euro sponsorship. A great endorsement of SKIL2.
Went out to dinner with a dear friend and imbibed a lot of champagne- had a great catch up with her and an amazing meal at Eden restaurant.
Back to Ballinamore on Friday and the views of the hawthorn in the fields from the train were amazing.
We had another gardening session. The moo poo hadn’t arrived so we decided to do other things.
I built a fence from bamboo and wool.
Maeve turned up first and we had a chat about the name of the garden – we agreed on Sunny Funny Garden. Maeve liked the name because as she said ‘ we have fun here and we hope it stays sunny’. Ah the optimism.
I had started a sign/gate and she wrote the name. We decided that there was heaps of room so we kept playing with the words and now we have a poem/name.We randomly play with the words and sing them.
Our group now has all the Hamill and D’arcy children – aged between 3and 9 – 6 of them.
We all trouped across the street to Eamon & Noelene’s garden shop.
They have helped us with free and greatly reduced prices for the plants. I bought sweetpeas, gooseberries, jasmine, other berries, a red plant and another climbing plant with white leaves. Yeh – I know you’re dazzled by my grasp of the plant names.
That’s Noelene helping a customer. She always has a smile for everyone and is a real pleasure to chat to.
All the crew carried plants to the garden. That’s Sinead to the right – she’s giving a great hand to us all.
The big kid to the right is 48 going on 6.
Then we were hard at work digging holes and planting.
So – that’s where 3 hours went folks.
Time stretches when your mindful and absorbed in the present.
I bought a little cart – I named it the Sunny Funny Cart – from Dee. Maeve and I drew flowers and a sun on it. I love taking it around from my place to the garden.
This morning I bought some white scented flowers and James helped me plant them as a kind of border for the garden entry path.
Then I went out and about saying hi to neighbours. Got the local papers and emailed what was for rent to one of my blog readers who will be visiting the area.
I’m off for a nap now as I’m helping staff the Moo Bar tonight – Dave Brown (front man for Moving Pictures) is playing and they expect quite a crowd.
Enjoy the weekend.
