I had a lovely visit with Sharon Sweeney (Cannaboe Confectionary) and took some photos of her Christmas offerings.
(check her Flickr site for all the photos of her work and the Ballinamore Entrepreneurs button at the top of this blog):
Divine solid chocolate santas, Xmas trees and snow people – yum yum – all wrapped in a bag with ribbon.
Sharon has made a fresh batch of chocolates for Christmas and has Solid Santas for 3.50, Solid Snowmen for 3.50, gold bags of Christmas chocolates 3 euro and beautiful 3D solid Christmas trees for 6 euro made in different types of chocolate and of course the usual gift boxes of filled chocolates.
Wee Christmas puddings all ready for you to eat – 10 euro.
The Piece de Resistance – proper hand made Christmas cakes (made by Alan) with Sharon’s distinctive designs.
Sharon has a few spaces left if you want to book that special Christmas cake … but I wouldn’t leave it too much longer.
Sharon can create a distinctive design and message to make a unique gift.
She emailed me a quick message…
Liz I am flat out but we can take more orders.
I wish I could bottle the wonderful Christmas smell in our kitchen at the moment. I’d need you to describe it properly. Its a mix of christmas cake, christmas pudding, bread and chocolate.
Christmas cakes are in sizes of 6″, 8″, 9″ & 10″ The prices are:-
- 6″ square or round 40 euro
- 8″ are 55 euro
- 9″ are 65 euro
- 10″ are 75 euro
I make the cakes to order with a Christmas message on them.
We get a lot of customers giving the cakes as presents to family, friends & neighbours so the messages range from Happy Christmas from Aunty Liz … From our house to yours at Christmas … To Mary, Amy & Joe from Granny, etc.
We make the cake tops to suit the house also. I always ask if the house its going to is all adult or if they have children. I put a snowman theme or santa theme on the children’s one and a holly & berries etc on the adult one.
You can also order her boxes of chocolates and choose the fillings you want … I’m not kidding when I tell you my mouth is watering right now as I think about them.
Sharon makes the chocolates up in boxes of 6, 12, 18, and 24. The box of 24 costs 20 euro. The box of 18 costs 15 euro, the box of 12 costs 10 euro and the box of 6 costs 5 euro.
Sharon and I had a cuppa and some of the chocolates … it’s not a pretty sight watching me snatch chocolates from the plate … just too tasty.
She told me that quite a few of her family read this blog (hi folks) and she wanted to send a special hello to her uncle Lars and aunty Reta in Queens New York.
Lars loves reading this blog … thanks Lars.
I took this photo of Sharon and her daughter Hannah just for you and Reta.
I send you big wishes for a wonderful Christmas in Queens and I hope I get to meet you when you visit Ballinamore.
I asked Sharon if she’d ever think of doing short workshops to show people how to make the chocolates and some basic cake decorating.
I want to learn so I had a fairly selfish motive for asking … she said she was thinking about it.
I can see all sorts of fab workshops:
- chocs for Valentine … or any time
- Irish bread making … if we can cajole Alan
- Irish Boxty making … Sharon’s Dad is a boxty making zen master
- cake decorating (sugar craft) for beginners to master classes
- a hens afternoon or evening where you come in with the girls and make chocolates or decorate cupcakes … and drink champagne
- cup cake making and decorating for children
The ideas are endless.
In order to curb my rampant enthusiasm Sharon has offered to run 2 short workshops in January (ish):-
- Chocolate making
- Cake decorating
Here’s some early information:–
- They would be on a Monday or Tuesday for 3 hours in the evening.
- The workshop would be held in Sharon’s work kitchen.
- The cost covers all ingredients (I can already see the chocolates I’ll be taking home).
- You also get an information pack with recipes and ideas.
- A maximum of 9 people … no huge classes here.
- All this for just 30 euros – I’ve already booked for the chocolate workshop … so there’s only 8 places left on that workshop.
If there’s a big demand we’ll keep a waiting list and put on other workshops.
Leave a message here or on Sharon’s site if you are interested in doing a workshop and/or want information on the workshops she will be doing in 2009.
