I had a feeling when I woke up that I wouldn’t get a lot of work done yesterday … and I was right.
My intuition (which is really finely tuned) told me not to get too ready for working and that I’d probably be going on a trip … one that I’d been looking forward to for a while … but a date was never set.
Up at my crack of dawn … 8.30am … took Coco outside … made porridge for me and Coco … sent a few work emails.
Popped in to say hi to Dee in the Forge and she asked if I wanted to go to Enniskillen for the day … yup … there goes the work … and in comes the trip.
For my international readers … Enniskillen is across the border into Northern Ireland and is only about 25 minutes drive away from Ballinamore.
They take euros as well as pounds but prices are substantially below the South … they also have a VAT rate that is around 5% lower than ours … and it was sale time.
Yes … I know you’ve heard me ask people to shop locally ... and I do for nearly everything I can get in town … but I can’t get walking boots or certain toys and treats for Coco pup.
Dee wanted to buy me a pair of walking boots to thanks me for helping in the shop in the weeks before Xmas … and I got a pair that were reduced from 100 pounds to 47 pounds … top quality Brashers.
Thanks Dee … now I can walk Coco without getting soaked feet in my poor holey boots … sometimes when you clear up the small daily irritations … life gets brighter.
We stopped in a pet shop … pet owner heaven.
I bought Coco a body harness … on the pack it said ‘ Does your dog pull?‘ … yes indeedy says I … wrap it up … I’ll take it. I also bought her a few chew toys and some healthy treats.
Dee and I had a good wander through some clothes shops … I wasn’t in the mood to try on clothes … I need to up the exercise and healthy eating after the Xmas and Derek/Lynda farewell parties.
We had a yukky lunch in some place … I’ve erased it from my memory.
Then we went grocery shopping and I got to buy stuff I can freeze (pitta breads and fish and flat breads and quiches) … because I have a new fridge/freezer … love saying that.
I also bought a fridge magnet that says
Don’t treat me any differently than you would … the Queen
Works for me.
I got home after being away for about 6 hours … to a rapturous welcome from Coco.
What a good puppy … nothing chewed … not a cushion out of place.
I gave her the new toys and a few treats … she started whimpering with indecision … too many choices … what to play with first? … what to eat first? … where to start?
I know the feeling.
I put the body harness on … she ran around the room trying to bite it and was totally confused.
When I said we were going for a walk … she perked up.
Dear & wonderful readers … I was in a state of ecstasy as we walked along the street.
Coco can’t pull the lead … she just wandered along wagging her tail happily … I was gobsmacked … you have no idea how much easier it makes the whole journey for Coco and me.
She gets to just keep moving forward … without choking from all the tugging and pulling.
And I don’t send people in the street (or myself) demented as I yell ‘ No Coco… stop pulling … Coco … Coco … stop … stop … Coco …’
All people heard tonight were my dulcet tones saying sweetly ‘ Good girl … who’s the best dog … best girl … very good’
And I also wore my new walking boots … lovely … they’ll be even better in a few months when they’ve broken in a bit.
Dee bought a swimming cap and goggles for … yes dear reader, you guessed it … swimming.
We are going to start swimming in the pool at Riversdale … just out of town.
Dee said if I want to do it I’ll have to be ready by 7.30am … no probs says I … just you wait and see … I can do it.
Thankfully … we aren’t starting tomorrow.
I love swimming and many many years ago I taught swimming and Life Saving in Australia during summer vacations … from 4 year olds to 60+ … I can teach anyone to swim … even my Mum.
So folks … that was my day.
Dee said she chose today for the trip to cheer me up about Derek and Lynda leaving … wasn’t that thoughtful?
I’d like to thank all my friends and neighbors who have been so sweet dropping in and checking that I’m feeling OK … what a great town.
And I’m feeling OK.
Derek and Lynda are now in Georgia and have sent me messages saying they are tired but good … and Indi the cat traveled happily under their seat in the plane.
They said to say hi to all their friends here in Ballinamore … they miss us … and said it feels strange not to be able to just wander down and knock on my door … know the feeling guys.
I was thinking this morning that it’s a little like the phantom limb thing that people talk about … they’re gone but I keep feeling that Derek and Lynda are still here and will knock on the door any minute to go for a pint.
And finally … last tonight was the New Moon and it’s also an eclipse … cool.
I did a few wishings about:
- Attracting some interesting contracts with creative people over the next month who pay really really well … and on time
- Attracting 2 lots of very cool and interesting neighbors for our cottages … I already have a profile for one cottage … will think about the other one
- Attracting the money (or someone gives me a ticket … ha ha) to go to Singapore and work on SKIL2, Lippylala & Life Dreaming with my brother Marc … sometime towards the end of Feb
- Starting and enjoying a broader exercise and healthy eating focus … swimming, walking & cycling
That’s enough … don’t want to be greedy.
I find doing these wishings every 2 weeks … on the new and the full moons … just focuses me on what’s important in my life right now … and also … how lucky and grateful I am for the people, health & life I have already.
Finally … yesterday was the 26th of January and I realised that it’s exactly 6 months until my 50th birthday.
I want to feel really healthy and fit going into a new decade so I’m (step by step) going to introduce some new patterns in my life … more exercise and fine tuning the healthy eating.
To keep me focused I’m going to make my journey public and post an update every week on what I’ve been doing and how I feel about it all … nothing like external reinforcement to bolster the internal drives.
And dear reader … if I don’t post ask/nag me to do so.
These are the specific actions I want to do:
- walk Coco for 1 hour a minimum of 4 times a week
- swim at least once a week for 30 minutes
- ride my bike when it gets warmer … out to the waterfall
- only have chips once a month and potatoes 2 times a week … folks … I LOVE chips and potatoes in any form … so this is a biggy.
- eat fish 3 times a week
- eat meat twice a week
- eat vegetarian twice a week
- have red, green and gold vegetables and fruit every day
- max 4 slices of bread per day … not white
- only eat small amounts of the best chocolate … Sharons from Cannaboe
- Make and freeze lots of yummy food
- Chop up things like carrots and cheese and onions and put them in containers so I can just pop them in salads
- Make up yummy salad and vege dressings and have them in the fridge
- Enjoy a few drinks out with friends … make mine bubbly.
- Have fun with it and see myself even more energised, healthy and fab.
There you go … clear and doable actions … that will reap really good rewards.
Right … I’m off to walk the Coco pup … will post a photo of her in the new harness.
