Mags and I had an adventure last night.
Just as she was going to work at Priors (she was helping Gay out) … Patsy (Mags kitten) ran out the door and disappeared into the (wet) night.
I was just crossing the road when she hailed me and asked me to keep an eye out for her.
I immediately went up to Damien and borrowed a torch and went up the back yards calling “patsy … patsy’ … no Patsy.
Maeve Hamill & Allana Smyth came up and asked what was happening … I explained and sent them searching the main street. I kept scurrying under bushes calling the cats name.
We were standing in the yard behind Mrs Hamills when we heard a cat squeek … looked everywhere … including me trying to tip over Thereses coal bucket.
We kept going quiet so we could locate the sound … we were stumped.
Then James joined us … and he had to have the torch … what is it about even little men that they think they need to take over from the women? Of course I reclaimed it after a moment.
To be fair … James was great at holding the torch steady when we needed him to help … he’s a great guy.
So by now there are 4 of us standing in silence trying to locate the cat squeek … found it!!
We look up … and up … and up.
Patsy is about 40 or 50 foot up a tree!!
I calm everyone and say ” We’ll talk her down (yeh right!) … and if she falls … I’ll catch her’. I send the girls off to Priors to tell Mags we have found Patsy.
Meanwhile … back at the tree … Dee has arrived and gone to fetch the biggest ladder I have ever seen.
We’re hoisting it against the tree … ready for her to climb up … when the girls get back and tell us that Mags said to just leave her there and she’ll come down.
I send the kids home and Dee and I go up to Priors .
We stay for a while and chat with Mags and then I go home via the tree … thinking … ‘How will Mags know which tree … I know … I’ll get a big ribbon and tie it around the right one’.
Get to the tree … no cat.
I had left my back gate and door open with all the lights shining … a kind of beacon for lost cats.
Walked into the bathroom and there she was having a wander around.
I was so delighted to see her … picked her up and took her straight back to Mags house and put her in the hallway … closed the door … but it doesn’t lock shut. That’s ok.
I go up to Priors and tell Mags I found Patsy … we were both kiddy with relief and had a glass of wine.
I go home and poor Coco is dying to go outside for a wee.
As I let her out the back … I think
‘Shit … I forgot to close the gate!’.
Coco shoots out the door and runs into the night.
It’s getting to be a farce at this stage.
I stand out the back as Coco goes happily ballistic running up and down the yards … running back to me and then before I can catch her … running away again.
I just stand there and laugh at the whole absurdity of it all.
Until … Coco runs to Maggies back door and pushes it open!!
I run up the lane shouting at Coco and get to the door … just as Patsy nearly gets out!!
Coco does this twice more!!
I repeat the running and shouting.
Patsy nearly gets out … I get there in the nick of time.
Then a bright (at the time) idea hits me … why don’t I drag some of Dee’s wooden pallets (that weigh a ton) across the yard into the lane … and make a high gate to stop Coco.
So I did.
Yeh … I know … genius … not.
Coco isn’t sure what they are … I realise they are just a psychological barrier as she could fly over them.
Coco tries one more time to push Mags back door open and help her feline friend escape … I run in and shut Mags wee gate … trapping Coco in her yard … gotcha!
Put Coco inside and went back to Priors to tell Mags.
All the adventure kept me busy for about 3 hours … then I worked until 1am designing a site for Eamonn and Noleen using WordPress … I had the best time and it looks really lovely … simple and full of great photos I have taken of their shop and flowers.
I’m going to show them today and then make it live.
I also sorted them with an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and have said on their site that people living away from Ballinamore can contact them and order flowers to be delivered to their loved ones who live here … cool.
Their site is ballinamoreflowershop.wordpress.com and I should have it up by today sometime.
Update – the site is now live.
Eamonn & Noeleen are delighted … I’m really pleased to be able to help such good friends and neighbours.
I’ve asked Marc to design a simple (but knowing him … gorgeous) business card as a gift and to pull together the visual branding of their flower shop and garden centre.
Eamonn & I will be posting seasonal tips on gardening on the site.
Here are some photos of their gorgeous flowers that I took a few minutes agao.
Update on the Patsy Saga
Here’s a photo of Patsy so you can see why we were worried last night.
She’s no street cat.
And here she is with Adrian’s dog Boysie … who loves Patsy. I can’t get over how Boysie and Coco look alike.
So there you are dear reader – action packed adventure … animals … flowers … this blog reaches new heights of excitment.
So … I’m a tad tired today and will take it easy.
Thanks to Maeve, Allana, James & Dee for their help in the search and rescue operation.
