Happy Monday dear reader … are we bright and sparkly and ready to take on the world? … personally … I like to slide my way into the week … no rushing … although …
Anything can happen.
So … while I do my sliding into the week … I also keep myself open to serendipity and synchronicity … the unexpected magic and mystery that can happen when you least expect it.
And even when you do expect it … there’s always a kind of frisson … a … ‘what next’ kind of feeling … a mix of excitement and fear … which I think are really two sides of the same coin.
That’s how I’m feeling at the moment.
Life Dreaming is starting to develop a new momentum.
Marc (my designer genius brother) sent me the squiggle I emailed him in late 2006 when we were creating the Life Dreaming visual branding.
Have a look … see how he transformed my squiggle into the beautiful logo we have now… it delights me to see what was an idea … slowly becoming a reality.
That’s the essence of Life Dreaming. … and I live it … every day.
Seriously folks … the Life Dreaming workbook isn’t just a mashup of exercises … I’ve used them with groups, individuals and me … for years.
I set aside time and space to do my own Life Dreaming a few times every year … to check in with myself … see if the things I focused on last year are the things I want to keep focusing on.
And on a more regular basis I just keep fine tuning what’s important in my life right now.
This time last week I gave my Life Dreaming workbook away for free.
Update – I have included a Creative Commons License – basically you are welcome to use any of the material for your own or friends use … you can’t use it for commercial purposes or alter the content. If you use material then I need to be acknowledged.
Who is this mad woman? … I hear you ask.
If I’m insane … then it’s a nice place to live.
Many many people have downloaded the workbook and I have received emails from men and women who have sent copies on to friends.
And a few of my dear readers have even begun to use the Life Dreaming workbook … and feel it is already having an effect on their lives.
To say that your feedback humbles and delights me … is a deep understatement.
At the core of all I do is an abiding belief that we all have the inner power to live the life we want to live … sure … it might take time, effort, support, frustration, patience, a river of wine & Sharon’s chocolates … that’s the way it goes.
The Life Dreaming workbook is just a tool … a beautiful and nicely crafted tool I’ll admit … but still a tool.
It’s up to you what you create with the tool.
Oh yeh … and like all tools … it might not be the tool for you … no probs.
Here are a few comments people have sent me … and I didn’t make any of them up … in answer to the cynic at the back of the room.
To all of you … my thanks for taking the time and effort to give me feedback.
‘I started the book on Wed. last and am very positive about what I have done so far.
It was a real revelation to me that what I named as priority no 1 was not top of the list when I came to score as to how much time I had devoted to it over the past month.
I have already made changes to that and am enjoying the change.
I definitely think your book is having an affect and will keep you posted when I do a bit more.’
‘Liz, thanks for sharing your lifedreaming w. book with all .
i only found your site recently and like your style. so inspirational. time for new balance in my life so am trying out the suggestions and activities suggested. let you know the outcomes.
Take care, keep inspiring.’
‘Thank you Liz for all you have done – not just for me but for all of us who are benefiting from your words, your time, your most generous and loving spirit.’
‘You are amazing Liz. You have obviously put so much of yourself into Life Dreaming and then to just put it out there I think is very courageous. I can’t wait to download it and read it.’
‘I have downloaded your ebook.
It is what I need right now and I Thank you for it.
I will be setting aside a day just for me and the book.
Also, please put me on your list when you have published the workbook.‘
‘Well done girl! Big step, letting it out there. I bet you will get lots of great feedback. I’ve only had a quick look myself so far and really like the colours and the space for doodling...’
‘I have just downloaded the ebook and will treat myself to it on Wed. evening next which I am booking for ME!
I’ll send you feedback if you like.’
‘I think this is a wonderful idea – and of course mad at the same time – and think – unimagined things may happen because of it.
I love your book and the possibilities it can help give birth to. In a way, you are like a doula! ‘
Yup … definitely humbling.
(note – I deliberately left out peoples names to respect their privacy).
People that know me are sure of a few things about me:
- I love ideas and living my values/principles in a very very practical way
- I’m never short of words … and … I can listen
- I have a healthy ego, self confidence & belief in my ability to make things (dreams/goals) happen
- I love being of use/assistance to others … Life is about me and (not or) about community
- I can be as playful … as I can be intense
- I have no concept of the impossible … I’m always saying ‘ there’s a way … we just have to find it’
- The differences in people fascinate me as much as the similarities
- This is the only life I know about … and no one will tell me how to live it
- I don’t join groups … of any kind. When I was about 6 … I went to the brownies (baby girl guides) … once … and came home to tell my parents that I was not impressed by uniforms or grown ups telling me what to do … haven’t really changed that much.
Now imagine if you had a person in your life who believed in you … beyond even your belief in yourself.
Someone who really ‘got’ the way you thought and acted in the world … and then made your ideas soar.
A person who made you stretch yourself … challenge your fears … and supported your craziest dreams.
I have quite a few people like that in my life.
My Dad and Mum are two people who have always believed in me … no matter how insane it all looked on the outside.
Who leaves a great job, thriving consultancy … wonderful friends … constant sunshine … to move across the world to Ireland in 2003 (at 33) by herself … no plans … Ireland is pre Celtic tiger … no jobs lined up … no contacts … hardly any money …
Ummm yeh … that would be me.
And how did my parents react?
With amazing support and belief in me … loving thanks to both of them.
My brother Marc is at the head of the pack of people who just seem to see my potential … way way way beyond where I see it ... and dear reader … I’m not shy about having big dreams .
Marc scares the bejesus out of me sometimes with the ideas he has for mine (and his own) businesses.
He was the one last week who said
‘why don’t you give away your Life Dreaming Handbook … for free ?’
And he is the one who is suggesting a whole new way to bring Life Dreaming into the world … but that’s going to be a secret for a little while … until we have worked it out a bit more.
New ideas need to be held very gently … like fragile crystal (obviously filled with wine) … unless they get destroyed by too many ‘yes buts’.
And here’s another new adventure I’m going on … a LizBiz vidcast.
I was interviewing Niall Megahey (Complete Weddings) as my February Ballinamore Entrepreneur. He’s a really interesting guy and very very good at what he does.
Anyway … he has offered to film me doing a kind of Liz and Coco in Ballinamore short video on Tuesday (because it will be a very very very cold day in … you know where … before I will need a wedding video).
I’m going to show you my Ballinamore street and some of the businesses I write about … all my shopkeeper friends are camera shy so you might not get to meet them … unless I do a David Attenborough and find them hiding under a rock!
Mags is adamant that she will not be filmed.
Her exact words ‘ I love you dearly Liz … but even for you … no filming’. Bummer … because she would be amazing on film.
Dee said pretty much the same thing … might be able to get Eamonn and Noeleen in a shot though.
Mags … what if I promised you didn’t have to talk … we’d just have you in the background as I walked around Smyths Shop? Please please please.
Dear reader … I’ll also take you to Lock 5 and Garadice Lake where Coco and I wander.
Then I’ll have a cuppa by the fire in Smyths pub … and go in to Priors pub.
Here’s an offer to you … is there somewhere in town you’d particularly like to see? Leave me a note and I’ll see if we can include it in the film.
Oh yeh … and then there’s all the Joomla learning I want to do in the next few months to build SKIL2.
And walking Coco … and training for the day the Olympics recognises lolling as a legitimate event.
None of this feels like stress or pressure … because … I just get a buzz out of it all … and they are directly related to my core values and interests in life.
That’s what’s known as congruence … a clear coherence/match between your values and your actions … no dissonance … a kind of bliss … even when you’re surrounded by crocodiles.
So … how’s your week looking?
