and she talked and talked and …
It’s just after 5 pm on Saturday and I got to bed at 4am this morning after a fab night being Mistress of Ceremonies for Aine Martin’s Fashion Parade.
I was up 4 hours later to start taking photos of the communions that happened here in Ballinamore today … those photos will be posted tomorrow.
quiet before the storm
I’m so tired I know that brain cells aren’t connecting … but I’ll do my best to give you a flavour of the evening.
Quick aside … I now have proof that my brain isn’t functioning … I forgot I had a 5pm massage at Marie Bradleys … oops … and I apologised to her.
First things first … to all the women and men who paid their money for the parade and gave contributions over the last few weeks … you helped raise 4,500 euro for Ugandan schools and Aine’s trip there to teach in July.
Once again … you showed the generosity that makes Ballinamore a great town.
2 boutiques provided the gorgeous clothes:
- our own Assets … who showcased their Debs Collection.
- Vanilla … who have boutiques in Cavan (Church St) and Enniskillen (Townhall St)
The clothes were really lovely and modelled with great style by:
- Francois Perry
- Siobhan Cullen
- Edel Mc Cartin
- Lisa Mc Grath
- Caroline Stoddard
- Ciara O’Dowd
- Rachel Geoghegan
- Shauna Cullen
- Emma O Dell
- Ciara Martin
Make up was done by Gemma Boyle of Luscious Ladies Salon in St Brigid’s St Ballinamore … and hair was styled by Hair Creations at Riverside Ballinamore.
Jewellery was supplied by Cara Pharmacy here in Ballinamore from their Pilgrim and Absolut collections.
And don’t get me started on all the business that donated prizes for the raffle:
- Vanilla – 2 outfits
- Slieve Russell Hotel – a 100 euro voucher
- Cara Pharmacy – 150 euro piece of jewellery
- The Forge – jewellery
- Smyths Siopa Bronntanas – jewellery
- Four Seasons Garden Centre – an orchid plant … and not an orchard … as I told everyone!
- Leitrim Crystal
- Sharon of Cannaboe Confectionary – a beautiful hamper of chocs and wine … my fave combination.
- Katie Mekin Hairdresser in Aughawillan
- Indigo – jewellery
- Gordan Hughes
- KK Jewellery Design
- Menary’s Carrick on Shannon – a lovely bag
- Cassidy’s Petrol Station Ballyconnell
- Annette Martin
- Maureen and Cam Martin
- Elaine McCormack (Gruaige)
- Susan McGovern
- Liz Biz … I gave a bottle of Oz pink sparkling wine
Many thanks to the Walsh family and staff of the Commercial Hotel here in Ballinamore who provided the venue free. It was a great space.
Little Star Parties … who have their supplies in the old factory in Ballinamore … provided 50 balloons to add to the festivities.
Eamonn & Noleen of Smyths Flower Shop donated 2 wrist corsages that you can see the Debs models wearing.
Aines family, friends and stalwart boyfriend Ciaron were all there helping on the night.
I think nearly 200 women turned up … we do love a night out.
We also were serenaded by:
Katie Duignan, Ciara Martin, Dearbhla Smith, Ciara O’Dowd, Sarah McLoughlin & Leona Bannon (who is Aine’s cousin and travelled from Belfast after she finished work to sing).
And many thanks to all the women who came up to me and said how much they enjoyed my MC ing … I was stopped by a lot of you today after the communion … you’re all very kind … and I had a blast.
Without further ado … I give you the visual memory of the evening.
Check out how lovely the women are in the crowd … and on the catwalk.
I’m thinking of maybe organising 2 fashion parades a year and giving the money to different local organisations … as well as national and international charities.
We could show the changing seasonal fashion … and have a great night out with other women.
What do you think? Would women in Ballinamore be interested? A lot of women I’ve chatted with today said they’d love it. Let me know your thoughts.
OK … here are the photos.
Quick Hint: – if you click on the tiny and small photos … they will get bigger.
big thanks to the young woman sitting in the front row on the right (Helen McTague) … she took all the model photos as I had to compere.
I wasn’t following Edel … I was tucking in the price tag!
interviewing the youngest member of the audience who ably helped pick the winning raffle tickets
we both agreed that we couldn’t sing … but … boy … can we talk!
chatting with the audience
the black gown is by a designer called Ruth Tarvydos … who lives in my Oz home town of Perth … spooky
the princess dress
Take a bow girls … you were amazing
take a bow ladies … you were fantastic
presentation to Aine from the Sean O Heslin Ladies Team … for international readers … that’s the local womens football team
take a bow Aine … it’s your initiative and great heart that brought us all together
So … there you are.
A great night was had by all.
Oh yeh … and today … on May 16 … I celebrate 16 years living in Ireland ... the homeplace of my parents.
The last 2.5 years have been in Ballinamore and I want to thank people for the warm welcome they have given me … and the great friendships I’ve made.
I hope that the next 16 years in Ballinamore are just as fab.
A special special hello to one of my devoted readers … Sheila.
Sheila introduced herself to me last night and we had a great chat. She reads the blog and I swear she remembers more about my life than I do.
She agrees with Mags that Marc should come to Ballinamore as he sounds like a great guy … which he is … any chance of a visit brother dear?
Yesterday I was also stopped by Sharon Sweeney’s Dad who introduced himself and told him that his brother Lar loves reading this blog. A great big hello to you again Lar.
And … I had someone knock on my door yesterday and ask if I was LizBiz … and could I give them some quick hints on setting up a blog … which I did.
It delights me to write this blog and let the world know about this wonderful community in Ballinamore … and I get a real buzz when I meet my readers … tickles me pink.
So … to all of you … my thanks for reading all my meanderings … and I send you wishes for very sweet dreams.
