The day after the Fashion Parade that I MC’d for Aine Martin (raised over 4500 euro in total with donations) … I was up after 5 hours sleep to photograph the Communion ceremony in Ballinamore.
Here’s my communion photo in Australia … taken 43 years ago … slightly different landscape to Ballinamore.

Three of my Sunny Funny Garden children were getting their first communion … Maeve Hamill … Thomas D’Arcy … and Alannah Smyth.
I popped up to the Hamills to say hello to Maeve as she was getting ready.
Watched by her Mum … and my good friend … Ber.
Maeve was also to sing a solo during the ceremony and I was amazed at how calm and happy she was … go girl!
I then went to the D’Arcy’s to say hi to Thomas and take a few photos.
He looked very handsome and posed for a few shots with his sister Aoife and brother Gavin.
I then went back to Maeve’s to get the first shot of her in her dress. She’s wearing her Aunty Collette’s wedding tiara.
And here is Alannah
Everyone kind of flocked to the church and I got some great shots of the kids before they entered the church.
The boys were a hoot as they aren’t really up for photos … and the girls pretty much looked like angels.
The church was packed with family and friends and after entering the communion children all sat with their families … nice idea.
I didn’t stay for the whole ceremony … although I was there there to hear Maeve sing her solo … what a wonderful voice she has.
I got some great shots of people coming out of the church.
I love seeing a photo and looking to see who’s in the background … catching people just being themselves.
Meanwhile … back in the church … lots of photos were being taken.
It was a chance for people to sit and chat with each other as they waited for the official photos to be taken
I love this photo of Thomas
Eunan Sweeny was the professional photographer for the day and each child was given a number to organise the order of the photos … I soooo didn’t envy Eunan that job … but I got to take a few cool shots by his side. Thanks mate.
Here are the Hamills … very striking family.
And the D’Arcy’s … love the shot where Eunan is trying to convince Gavin to stand up … good luck with that!
The Smyths all looking very happy together.
maeve & alannah
And here are mostly female members of the Hamill family withTherese at the centre.
I love Therese and she’s a great next door neighbour.
Here are a pile of random shots … enjoy
The shot of the girls is lovely
I went back to the Hamills for a fine feast with all their family and friends … and then went back to my cottage and spent 3 hours uploading & resizing photos and writing the post for the Fashion Parade.
Apologies to the D’Arcy’s and Smyths that I didn’t get to visit you … I was exhausted.
Spent all day Sunday in bed reading and sleeping … and not talking.
It’s now Monday and very busy … sorting all the photos for this blog … cleaning the cottage … and preparing for a SKIL2 Team meeting with Depaul Ireland in DublinWednesday … although I go up on Tuesday.
I’m going to the 3rd year exhibition of Sligo IT Arts Graduates on my way home from Dublin Wednesday evening.
I hope to have Sunny Funny Garden on Thursday … and a free makeup by Gosh cosmetics at Cara Pharmacy on Thursday morning … it’s free … so book in.
And Friday sees the opening of a new exhibition in the Solas Art Gallery in town. I’ll be taking photos as usual and posting them on the blog.
And … the weekend sees the Ballinamore GAA big birthday celebrations … as well as the opening of the refurbished stands and change rooms. So many people have been giving their free time for months to help with all the work. I’ll be down to take photos of all the key events for this blog.
Then next week … I’ll have to find some lolling time. All this activity …. it’s too … active … for me.
I hope your week brings only pleasant surprises.
