Actually … it’s the word for the week … discipline.
I was reading an interesting book called Sleep Thinking the other night … lots of cool questions to ask yourself before you go to sleep … and then let your brain think of the answers.
Anyway … the author made a list of character traits and my eye kept wandering back to that word … discipline.
It’s always reeked of authority and routine and boredom to me.
I’m very capable of being disciplined when it’s needed … just not on a consistent basis.
So … I asked myself … was there ever a time in my life when I was consistently disciplined at something I enjoyed?
Yeh … between when I was 13 and 15 … I used to get myself up every morning at 6.30am and go to swimming training for an hour … and again in the evening.
I was swimming over 2 miles a day.
I loved it.
Unfortunately when I was 15 I became very ill with something that was never diagnosed … ended up in hospital … and was too weak to walk for a while.
I had to give up swimming training … and it broke my heart.
I ended up training swimmers and teaching swimming and life saving.
I think that was the last time I did anything on a regular basis again.
This week I decided to apply a little discipline to things I had been putting off … I made a list and have worked my way through it.
I took back my waaaaay overdue library books … sorted my 2008 and 2009 accounts … wrote the Focused Solutions info pack … emailed a few friends and family … walked the dog … ate properly.
One more thing to do tomorrow … mail the books off for Pam.
Discipline has its place … as does Lolling … which I intend to do as a reward to myself for all this disciplined effort … off to bed to read.
Before I go lolling:
Cara Pharmacy is having 25% off the Pilgrim jewellery to make way for the new season yummies.
The sale is on Friday and Saturday and I love the designs … nice gifts for yourself or friends.
And an update on the puppy Torvil that was thrown out of a car window.
Mags and I rang the shelter to find out how he was … he’s had the operation and will be seeing the vet again tomorrow.
If I get the chance I’ll get a lift to the shelter and take a photo of Torvill.
Any money that goes into the AIB account will go towards the cost of the operation … number 06670056 sort code 932035. I put a few euro in … and I know a few people from around here have as well.
And thanks … to all the people who have emailed me to give me new contacts to send my Focused Solutions info pack to … I appreciate it very much.
Now … I’m off to loll and read … still feeling a lot tired from the flu … and doing my accounts gave me a wonderful headache.
